Faiths at work – an asset, not an issue

The project

The ‘Faiths at work’ programme aims to bring together people of various faiths to develop mutual understanding of what each brings to the workplace, including ethical values. If we understand and appreciate colleagues and clients better, then we can be more confident to 'do business' together. Employers and colleagues may be nervous of faith at work, yet faith can make a positive contribution to the work place. Faith helps form values and attitudes at work, as in the rest of life. There is much to be gained from exploring the differences between faiths as well as the areas of common ground.

The programme

The programme offers the chance to join a group of up to 15 people. There will be several groups and each one will meet a total of five times, including a visit to a local worship centre – a mosque, temple, church, gurdwara or synagogue. The possibility of visits to each other’s workplaces or shared social action will be explored as the group develops. Groups will meet at times and places to suit participants.

The first group will start in May 2010 with other groups beginning through the year. Towards the end of the year long programme, all the groups will be brought together to evaluate the programme and to decide any future activity.
