 Event 1: Study Day - Understanding Christianity

    'Understanding Christianity' arranged with Birmingham Council of Faiths.

    The 3rd in the successful  'Understanding Faiths' series.

    Date: Saturday May 16th 9.30am - 4.30pm.

    Venue: St John & St Peter's Church, Darnley Rd. Ladywood B16 8TF.

    Speakers include: Revd Canon Martin Stephenson and the Revd Dr Colin Marsh.

    Cost: Only £5.00, bring lunch.

    Intended for non-Christians of any other faith or none.

 Recent events
1)  'What makes a really good school visit ?' held on Weds July 1st at 7 - 9pm at the Faithful Neighbourhoods Centre, Court Rd Sparkhill.

Speakers were: Simone Whitehouse (RE Adviser for Birmingham Schools) and Sam Dawson Smith (teacher at Colmers School).

Participants were shown a video about how the Birmingham RE Agreed syllabus works in school, and were made familiar with the 24 dispositions which provide the framework of the syllabus.

They were interested to hear about school visits to places of worship from a teacher's perspective and received some useful tips for making such visits really worthwhile.

2) 'AWARDS EVENING' held on Weds July 22nd 7 - 9pm at the Khoja Shi'a mosque in Clifton Rd Balsall Heath.

8 successful Faith Guides were presented with their Certificates and badges by Tim Hudson, the Chair of the Examinations Board of the Institute of Tourist Guiding, and Cathy Farmer, Guiding Skills Tutor on the course.

The evening was chaired by Osman Sheikh , Co-chair of the Faith Encounter Programme Steering Group, and Mrs Bhawna Chavda spoke on behalf of the newly qualified Faith Guides.

The guest speaker was the Revd Prof Dr Ian Williams, one of the new Faith Guides. He spoke most movingly on 'Sacred Spaces: Doorways to the Depths', drawing on his wide interfaith experience.

A vegetarian buffet was enjoyed by over 50 people of 6 different faiths.
